At the annual GitHub Universe conference, GitHub announced Spark — a tool that enables users to create web applications using natural language. Spark was developed for experimental use in GitHub Next labs and allows users to build micro-apps even without any coding knowledge. The tool provides a preview of the app based on the initial prompt, with the ability to iteratively edit it via chat. “This is the first step toward personalized software creation, opening up the possibility for a billion people to build their own apps,” said GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke.

GitHub also introduced multimodal support for Copilot, allowing users to choose between models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Copilot participants can switch models while using Copilot Chat.
Copilot, which became available in 2021, now supports extensions for Xcode — Apple’s proprietary development environment. This enables developers working with Swift and Objective-C to use AI features for code completion and enhancement. To access this version of Copilot, you simply need to install the corresponding extension.
Other updates include a feature for editing multiple files simultaneously in VS Code, which will be available from November 1, as well as the ability to launch private Copilot Extensions in 2025.
