Google has started implementing an update for its AI chatbot Gemini, which allows the model to automatically remember key details and user preferences from past conversations without a separate request. The “Personal Context” feature will become standard for Gemini 2.5 Pro in selected countries and will gradually appear in Gemini 2.5 Flash. In the Gemini settings, users can disable this option at any time by going to the “Personal Context” section and deactivating chat history saving.

After activating this feature, Gemini will take previous communication experiences into account for personalized responses. For example, if a user previously asked for advice on creating a YouTube channel about Japanese culture, during subsequent requests for video ideas, the chatbot may suggest topics about Japanese cuisine. Google emphasizes that the main focus is on personalization and easy management of security features.
The update also includes changes in privacy settings. In the coming weeks, the company will rename the “Gemini Apps Activity” setting to “Keep Activity.” If this option is enabled, Google will use selected files and photos uploaded by the user to improve its services. If “Gemini Apps Activity” is disabled, the new feature will remain inactive.
Users will have access to the “temporary chats” mode, where conversations will not be saved in chat history and will not affect personalization. Data from such chats will not be used for AI training and will be stored only for 72 hours. This creates an additional level of privacy for questions that should not affect future interactions with Gemini.
