The Gemini app now features image editing using natural language. Users can now modify individual elements in created or uploaded images without losing their original appearance. For example, you can change the background, add text, or replace objects while keeping other details unchanged.
Editing works both with images generated by AI and with personal photos uploaded to Gemini. The feature allows, for instance, changing hair color in your own photo or adding new elements to an already finished picture. All changes are made using text prompts, making the process accessible even to those with no experience in graphic editors.
Updated images now display an “AI” watermark in the lower right corner, as well as an invisible digital marker SynthID. This is intended to indicate that the image was created or edited with AI.
The feature has become available to more users in the US, including both free and premium account holders. In addition, Google has opened early access to image generation and editing for developers via the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, where improved image quality and more accurate text rendering are promised.
