ElevenLabs has announced that authors can now publish audiobooks created with generative AI on its own Reader app. This follows a recent partnership with Spotify to create AI-powered audiobooks. ElevenLabs aims to provide accessible and convenient tools for audiobook creation, reducing the costs of studio production.
On the ElevenLabs platform, audiobooks will be available through the Reader app, and authors will receive rewards for attracting listeners. Currently, the company pays authors about one dollar and ten cents if a listener spends more than eleven minutes with an audiobook. During testing, the average listening time was nineteen minutes.
At the initial stage, rewards are paid to authors from the USA and only for audiobooks in English. The company plans to expand payments to content in the thirty-two languages supported by the platform. ElevenLabs also plans to create a marketplace where authors can sell their content.
The company is already partnering with other audio platforms, such as Pocket FM and Kuku FM, to convert text into audio. ElevenLabs aims to become a platform for publishing and distributing independent content, expanding opportunities for authors and publishers in the audiobook field using AI.
