Duolingo announced the launch of 148 new language courses created with generative AI. With this update, the number of courses in the app has more than doubled, marking the largest content expansion in the company’s history. Now, the seven most popular languages—Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin — are available for all twenty-eight interface languages.

Most of the new courses are aimed at beginners and include features such as “Stories” for developing reading skills and “DuoRadio” for listening comprehension practice. Users who speak European and Asian languages can now choose among the most popular languages, and English speakers have gained access to Swedish and Tamil courses. The company notes that in the coming months, it plans to launch more advanced content for experienced learners.

Duolingo explains that previously, creating a single course would take years, but now, thanks to generative AI and internal tools, the process has accelerated significantly. The use of the model allows for the creation of a basic course and its rapid adaptation to different languages.

The launch of the new courses comes as Duolingo transitions to an “AI-first” strategy, which involves gradually reducing the involvement of contractors for tasks that can be performed by AI. The company emphasizes that all team changes will be considered individually, and the use of AI allows employees to focus on key aspects of the learning process.
