DuckDuckGo announced the release of its Duck.ai service from beta, allowing users to leverage generative AI for search queries. Now, users can receive answers to their queries in a conversational style, using AI models from companies such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta. Duck.ai offers access to these models without requiring registration, preserving user anonymity.

Duck.ai users can choose between different models, such as OpenAI’s o3-mini, Meta’s Llama 3.3, and Mistral’s Small 3. Currently, access to Duck.ai is free, but the company is considering introducing a paid plan to increase query limits and provide access to more powerful models.
Additionally, DuckDuckGo is integrating generative AI into its traditional search engine, where users can customize how often AI-generated answers appear. By default, these answers show up “sometimes,” but users can choose “often,” “on demand,” or “never.”
Another new Duck.ai feature is “Recent Chats,” which stores previous conversations with the AI interface locally on the user’s device. This helps maintain data privacy, as chats are not stored on DuckDuckGo’s servers or any other remote servers. The company has also implemented safeguards to ensure that any saved chats are deleted within thirty days.
