The Chinese lab DeepSeek has announced it will open part of the code for its online services as part of “Open Source Week,” which will take place next week. The company plans to release five code repositories that, according to them, have been “documented, deployed, and tested in real-world conditions.” Code repositories typically contain source code, as well as configuration files and project documentation.

In a message published on X on Thursday, the company stated: “As part of the open source community, we believe that every line of code we share becomes a collective engine accelerating our journey.” DeepSeek noted that daily updates will be available soon, emphasizing that their approach is based on the energy of garage projects and community-driven innovation.
DeepSeek already has a history of providing open access to its AI models under licenses that allow free use. This creates significant pressure on major AI market players, such as OpenAI. In recent social media posts, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged that DeepSeek’s activities have reduced OpenAI’s technological advantage and noted that OpenAI will consider opening more of its technologies in the future.
