DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup, has amazed the world with its new Janus-Pro models. The company claims these models can outperform the well-known DALL-E 3 from OpenAI. Janus-Pro is available for download on the Hugging Face platform and features between one and seven billion parameters. This means the models are capable of solving complex tasks, as more parameters generally translate to better performance.

Janus-Pro can analyze and create new images. According to DeepSeek, the largest model, Janus-Pro-7B, outperforms DALL-E 3. Although most Janus-Pro models can only analyze small images with a resolution up to 384×384, their performance is impressive.
DeepSeek also attracts attention with its open models, which, according to the company, can be trained at lower cost and with fewer graphics processors. This has led many analysts to question whether the US can maintain its leadership in the AI race. Against this backdrop, Nvidia shares fell by 17 percent, marking the largest drop in US history, according to CNBC.
DeepSeek has restricted new user registrations due to large-scale attacks on its services. However, existing users can log in without issues. This restriction has sparked additional interest in the company, which has already topped the App Store charts with its AI assistant.
