Microsoft is preparing its Copilot service for the launch of GPT-5, which is expected as early as the beginning of August. A new “Smart” mode has appeared in the Copilot code, joining existing options such as “Quick Response,” “Think Deeper,” and “Deep Research.” The new mode features a GPT-5 tag and a description that highlights the ability to “think quickly or deeply,” combining the strengths of the o series and GPT models.
The “Smart” mode is being developed to automatically select the response strategy based on the user’s query. This will allow Copilot to independently decide whether to provide a quick response or perform a more complex analysis, eliminating the need to switch modes manually.
Currently, this mode remains hidden and unavailable to users. Initial technical tests show that “Smart” responds in a quick style, but there is no confirmation that it is already supported by GPT-5. It is expected that this mode will appear alongside the official release of GPT-5 and become part of the joint launch by OpenAI and Microsoft.
With the integration of GPT-5 into Copilot, users will receive an AI assistant that combines quick response functions and in-depth analysis. This capability will allow for more efficient task resolution without additional settings. Microsoft and OpenAI are expected to present the Copilot update simultaneously with the public launch of GPT-5.
