OpenAI introduced an updated personalization page for ChatGPT. Users can now change the chatbot’s “personality” and communication style through a simple menu. Available options include “Cynic,” “Robot,” “Listener,” and “Nerd,” as well as a “custom instructions” section where preferences can be added to responses, such as “Avoid youth slang.”
On the personalization page, users can specify their desired name, profession, interests, values, or preferences. This allows interaction with AI to feel more like a conversation with a friend or colleague rather than a soulless machine. Additionally, users can change ChatGPT’s memory settings directly in the menu.
OpenAI focused on personalization after the launch of GPT-5, when many users complained about the speed and communication style of the new model. The company quickly added updates, including the return of easy access to GPT-4o for ChatGPT Plus subscribers.
Some users were skeptical of the new personalization page, emphasizing the advantages of GPT-4o and the standard voice mode, which they believe better adapt to intentions and preferences. An OpenAI representative confirmed that the return of GPT-4o for the free version of ChatGPT is not planned.
