OpenAI announced the expansion of access to the “Memory” feature for free users of ChatGPT. From now on, the free version of the chatbot can remember important information from recent conversations, allowing for more personalized responses. Previously, this feature was only available to paid subscribers, such as Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise, and Edu.
We’re starting to roll out a lightweight version of memory improvements to Free users. In addition to existing saved memories, ChatGPT now references your recent conversations to provide more personalized responses. https://t.co/RZFYUC9JAT https://t.co/O8lubCBNZO

Thanks to “Memory,” users can share details about their preferences, pets, hobbies, diets, or current projects with ChatGPT once and not have to repeat this information. The model considers saved data in subsequent dialogues, which can simplify seeking advice or preparing for recurring tasks.
For those concerned about privacy, settings allow you to completely disable memory saving using the “Reference saved memories” option. Additionally, you can activate the “Temporary Chat” mode, which does not save current conversation data — similar to using incognito mode in browsers.
The feature is gradually appearing in free ChatGPT accounts. If the option is not yet available, it means the update has not been rolled out to all users. To activate or deactivate the feature, simply change the corresponding toggle in the personalization settings section.
