OpenAI announced an update to ChatGPT, aimed at promoting healthy AI usage. From now on, during long sessions, users will see special reminders about the need to take a break. The message appears after prolonged interaction and suggests the user consider taking a rest.
Another new feature is that ChatGPT avoids direct and definitive answers to personal questions, such as those about relationships or important decisions. Instead, the AI helps analyze the situation and suggests weighing the pros and cons on one’s own.
OpenAI has improved the model to better recognize signs of emotional or mental distress. If necessary, the AI recommends evidence-based help resources. For this, the company engaged over 90 doctors from various specialties across more than 30 countries, who helped form new response criteria.
Additionally, OpenAI is creating an advisory group of experts in mental health and youth development. Their goal is to improve AI’s work considering modern scientific approaches and practices.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized that AI does not replace a specialist and does not guarantee confidentiality, as is the case in communication with doctors or psychologists. The company stressed the importance of responsible use of ChatGPT for personal questions.
