OpenAI and Anthropic have released new reports on the usage of their most popular AI assistants. The data shows that ChatGPT is most often used for writing texts and supporting decision-making, while Claude is actively used for coding and automating business processes.
The OpenAI report is based on an analysis of ChatGPT user messages from consumer tariff plans, where most inquiries relate to personal rather than work issues. In July 2025, over 700 million people used ChatGPT weekly, and 73 percent of messages were related to personal matters.
The main usage scenarios for ChatGPT are information search, text writing, and solving practical tasks. Technical support messages are decreasing, while educational inquiries occupy a noticeable place. Users more often seek advice or information rather than content creation. The greatest benefit users note is in responses to informational inquiries, rather than in complex technical or multimedia tasks.
The Anthropic report covers both consumer and corporate inquiries to Claude. In the consumer segment, Claude is most often used in education, science, and programming. There has been an increase in cases where users entrust Claude with completing entire tasks. New features such as “web search” and “research mode” have contributed to the growth of requests for document analysis and multimedia work.
In business, Claude is most often used for process automation — for example, for software development or creating marketing texts. Most companies entrust Claude with task execution without significant employee involvement. Anthropic analysts note that price rarely affects the choice of automation if the task is simple and yields a tangible result.
The reports show a difference in approaches: ChatGPT is more widely used for individual needs and decision support, while Claude is used for automation and complex business tasks, especially in countries with high income levels and technological development.
