OpenAI introduced a new feature to use apps directly in ChatGPT. Now users can run services like Spotify, Canva, Figma, Zillow, Coursera, Booking.com, and Expedia right in the chat without leaving the interface. For example, you can ask Spotify to create a personalized playlist, Canva to generate a social media layout, and Zillow to find housing based on specific parameters and view an interactive map with results.
Integrations allow interaction with apps through simple instructions in the chat. ChatGPT can suggest using apps in response to requests. To launch an app, you need to confirm the connection, which will specify the terms of data exchange with the service.
New apps are available for all authorized ChatGPT users, except in European Union countries. Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans are supported. OpenAI plans to add more popular services, such as Uber, DoorDash, OpenTable, Target, Peloton, Tripadvisor, and AllTrails, in the coming weeks.
A preview of the Apps SDK is open for developers, allowing them to create their own apps for ChatGPT. Apps can display their own interface and connect to the developer’s backend. OpenAI plans to open a public app catalog and provide monetization opportunities later this year. Apps must meet security, transparency, and minimal data collection requirements.
With these updates, ChatGPT is transforming into a universal interface for various online services, allowing familiar tasks — from creating designs to booking accommodations — to be performed within a single chat.
