Character AI, a startup that allows users to interact with various AI characters, has started testing games in its web apps for desktop and mobile devices. The games are available to Character AI subscribers and a limited number of free plan users. For the initial release, the company developed two games — “Speakeasy” and “War of Words.” Users who have access to the games can go to any AI character they are chatting with in the browser and click on the new controller icon to play with them.

In the “Speakeasy” game, users must get the chatbot to say a specific word without using five given words. For example, if you want the bot to say “croissant,” you can’t use the words “pastry,” “butter,” “bake,” “French,” or “layered.” In “War of Words,” users compete against a character, and an AI judge decides who wins each of the five rounds.

Character AI says this is their way of making the service more fun. A company representative stated that Character AI’s goal is to find ways to make the user experience even more engaging by allowing people to play with their favorite characters while maintaining the popular immersive experience. Although users already have their own characters for text-based games like “Space Adventure Game,” the company is trying to add its own games to the platform.
