The company Black Forest Labs introduced the FLUX.2 “klein” model family, aimed at developers, content creators, and research teams who need fast image generation and editing. The launch includes two versions: FLUX.2 “klein” 4B, released under the Apache 2.0 license for wide use, and FLUX.2 “klein” 9B, available under a non-commercial FLUX license. Both models are now available for public use and testing, with demonstrations open to all interested parties.
FLUX.2 “klein” is noted for its very fast performance — image generation or editing takes less than half a second. The model runs on standard graphics cards with 13 GB of video memory, including popular consumer GPUs. It supports image generation from text descriptions, editing, and creation based on multiple references.
The FLUX.2 “klein” models are available in FP8 and NVFP4 versions with reduced video memory consumption by up to 55 percent, expanding usability on various hardware. Thanks to a unified architecture, these models provide photorealistic results with great diversity and ready-to-deploy APIs for developers.
According to testing results, FLUX.2 “klein” 9B demonstrates speed and image quality on par with or exceeding significantly larger competitors, and optimized versions are suitable for older graphics cards, such as the RTX 3090. Users have already noted the combination of speed, versatility, and open access, which helps quickly prototype and integrate AI into various workflows.
