Apple is considering using AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic for an updated version of Siri. Bloomberg reports this, citing sources within the company. Apple has been testing how models from OpenAI and Anthropic work on its own cloud infrastructure for several months and is comparing them with its own development called “LLM Siri.”
Apple planned to release Siri with AI support in 2025 but postponed the launch until at least 2026 due to technical difficulties. Vision Pro division head Mike Rockwell recently took over the AI and Siri direction following changes in the management team. The team is assessing whether models like Anthropic Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, or Apple’s own model handle basic tasks better.
Among the models being tested for Siri, Anthropic Claude currently shows the most promise. Siri can already refer to ChatGPT for complex questions, but Apple is exploring the possibility of deeper integration with third-party technologies. A decision on which model will become the basis for the updated Siri has not yet been made.
Apple continues to work on improving “LLM Siri” but does not rule out using external solutions. Implementing new AI models in Siri could provide users with more opportunities for communication and solving everyday tasks through the voice assistant.
