At its annual Devices & Services event, Amazon introduced Alexa+ — an enhanced version of its voice assistant, now powered by generative AI.
Alexa+ can remember important details from documents provided by the user and answer questions about them. For example, the assistant can analyze homeowners association documents and provide answers about the rules. Additionally, Alexa+ demonstrated the ability to process emails. For instance, it can monitor emails from your children’s school, selecting and summarizing the key information. Another new feature is the ability to switch music between different rooms and control smart devices.
Alexa+ also offers many other new features, such as creating stories for children, booking tables at restaurants or rides with Uber, assessing the situation around the house, finding specific scenes in movies, recommending local service providers, and more.
However, it’s important to note that this version of the assistant is a paid upgrade, costing $19.99 per month. For Amazon Prime users, it is free. Alexa+ will begin rolling out to Echo Show devices in the US in the coming weeks and will later become available to all users.
