Adobe has released an update for Premiere Pro that includes generative AI-based features aimed at improving the speed and quality of video editing. Version 25.2 is now available to users and includes tools for searching, translating, and extending video footage, which are now accessible to everyone.
One of the most interesting new features is Generative Extend, which allows users to extend video clips by up to two seconds. This provides more options for smooth transitions or correcting unexpected movements without the need for reshooting. The feature can also generate clips in 4K quality and extend background audio by up to ten seconds, although this does not apply to speech or music.
Generative Extend is free to use for a limited time, after which users will need to use Firefly credits. Creative Cloud users receive a monthly allocation of credits depending on their plan. Additional credits can be purchased, starting at $10 for two thousand credits per month. Adobe has not yet specified how many credits will be required to use Generative Extend, but noted that the cost will depend on the format, frame rate, and resolution of the video.
The updated version of Premiere Pro also includes a new AI-powered search panel that automatically recognizes the content of clips in your video library. This allows you to search for footage using text descriptions, including objects, locations, camera angles, and effects.
